Garden Musings

As written last issue, we are behind and expect to be caught up for the January or February 2005 issue. Your patience and continued support continue to be much appreciated.

Since much of this issue deals with the Rutaceae we chose to use a large and small example on our cover. Both plants are in fruit in my yard and both have a story. The pummelo was a airlayered gift from Ron Hensley - The name is currently lost but I hope to get the variety soon. The key lime was grown from seed by Bruce McVicar in the 1970's. He gave the plant to me and it spent years in a small container. Frequently I would airlayer the top half and give half the plant to a friend. Finally in the late 1990's it was planted out at my home. It has been the source of many a great pie.

When viewed close up the structure is almost identical to the much larger pummelo at right.
