The Cure For Alcoholism

The Cure For Alcoholism: The Medically Proven Way To Eliminate Alcohol Addiction - by Roy Eskapa, PhD

Introduction by Claudia Christian and a foreword by David Sinclair, PhD 344 pages, illustrations, index, from BenBella Books, Inc. Dallas, Texas. ISBN: 978-1-937856-13-7

Reading The Cure For Alcoholism was an interesting experience for me. I rarely consume alcohol, although I have been known to comment that this is due to a lack of funds it is more that there were no close members of the family that consumed much alcohol. So, why read a book like The Cure For Alcoholism? Besides the fact that my reading is eclectic I developed a curiosity about the book when I read Claudia Christian's book Babylon Confidential. Once I started it was difficult to stop as I became intrigued by the methods, and the rates of success illustrated.

The Cure For Alcoholism highlights various studies and patient experiences using a drug called naltrexone and the methodology developed as the Sinclair system. (Dr. David Sinclair wrote the books foreword). What an unusual system it is too, no 7, 9 or 12 steps, meetings (unless you want them), therapy is light handed. No embarrassment, recriminations and castigation. No total abstention. Just a relatively inexpensive medication that seems to have few side effects and following a couple of simple directions.

While traditional 'cures' involving various steps and emotional upheaval mostly give a less that 10% success rate this book takes an entirely different approach. One that, backed up by sound scientific studies results in an unheard of success rate of over 70%. Now this last paragraph might sound like snake oil but the studies are well documented and large enough to give a lot of promise. Reading the book would commit you to little and provide far more information for an informed decision than any review.

Over the years I've had several friends who would have benefited from this book, and some relatives. I can see it also offering opportunities and options to those who may not be an alcoholic but see a need or have a desire to control drinking. And CONTROL is what this book and system are about as you need not quit all alcohol consumption (although some do) but gain control over your brain and any desires it may have for alcohol. Think about it, you can still have a drink with the boss, or at a wedding or other event and no one gives you the eye while awaiting for you to fall off the wagon. 'They' might not even know.

I liked this book a lot as I see that it could help hundreds of thousands of people, even millions. I liked it so much I am considering setting up a web page to promote it and have spoken to some people about developing an app to assist users. (There is already one app out there). If you have any interest I suggest you read it and become informed of this alternative to more traditional methods to control drinking.
